The Need for Lone Worker Safety
Large utilities, production plants and commercial buildings are relying still more on automated systems to run and monitor everything from building management systems over task handling to SCADA alarms. It is no longer necessary to use more than a few individuals to cover large areas, therefore the need for systems to protect lone workers are growing.
ZONITH Lone Worker Protection Features
Zonith Lone Worker Safety offers multiple features, which enhances the lone worker safety. Depending on your needs, you can choose between different features.
Indoor positioning: This ZONITH Alarm Control System - Module enables you to locate a lone worker. If a lone worker presses his panic button his colleagues will know where he is by reading the alarm text on their own radios.
Safe Area: When many lone worker protection features are active at the same time they can become a nuisance when you are in a safe location (i.e. lunch or control room). ZONITH Safe Area uses the Bluetooth Indoor Positioning to define the safe area, and motion detectors to detect movement in the safe area. When the lone worker is in the safe area lone worker features are automatically deactivated. But if there is no motion in the area the lone worker features will activate again.
Centralised Safety: Centralised lone worker protection eliminates one of the main single points of failure; the lone worker's radio. The Control Software sends a text message to the radio at a predefined interval, and the lone worker must then reply actively. If not replied to inside a predefined number of minutes, a lone worker alarm will be raised.
Panic button: When pressed a message is sent to colleagues and an emergency control centre.
Man Down: This feature will raise an alarm if the radio remains motionless or in a lying down position for a certain amount of time.
Dead Man's Button: The radio starts giving off sound if no buttons have been touched for a preset time interval. If the lone worker does not react by pressing a button - an alarm is raised.
Access Control: Automatic control of plant gates. Ensures easy access for rescue personnel coming from outside the installation.
Safety and Value-Add
Apart from the obvious safety advantages Zonith Lone Worker applications adds value through higher efficiency. Technical alarms are sent directly to the employee radio, allowing employees to move freely around the production area at all times. Based on the ZONITH Alarm Control System scheduler, alarms are dispatched directly to employees with the exact skills to handle the problem.
